Macadamias or Pecans?

The Cady Family spent the morning watching the US Little League World Series Championship. The teams playing against each other were Hawaii vs. Texas--Pearland to be exact. This is weird. We literally live in Waipahu where the team from Hawaii is from. The Park they play and practice at is five minutes away. The name of it is, "Central Oahu Park," or as we know it, "Pasty Mint Park." (Jonathan misread the sign the first few times we saw it. The actual name is "Patsy Mink," but the mispronunciation has stuck.) Anyway, we moved here from Friendswood, one suburb over from Pearland, just over a year ago. Watching the game felt a little surreal. Like watching your best friend marry your ex-fiance. Well, not that surreal, but still. I mean, it's possible some of those Pearland boys go to school with some of the kids we went to church with in Houston, just like one of the players from Waipahu goes to school with Mackenna & Jonathan. As 'irony' or 'luck' would have it, here they were. Out of all the teams from around the Nation that made it to the Finals, these were the two vying for the US Championship in Pennsylvania. So, in case you're wondering how the cheering-match went down at our house, this is it:  Kenna & Jon were 100% Waipio. I was 100% Pearland. David, as always, was neutral as Switzerland. BTW: this is Jon's "I'm Cooler-Than-School" look. I had to MAKE him hold the DP can. Turncoat!!

I See Church People...

Me again. Sundays are just flat-out odd when you live where we do and do what we do. One of the quirkiest things about living in this particular Parsonage is the lay-out of the house in proximity to the Church Building. Below is a picture I took of myself sitting on the Toilet in the half-bath in our bedroom. Don't worry: I'm just sitting, not going. Anyway, what you see outside is the carport/garage/eating-area for Fellowship Meals. (I'll talk about the Fellowship Hall that connects to our bedroom later.) Directly behind that area is the Church Parking Lot and the Church Building itself. David and I have both had conversations with church folks while either sitting in this spot or standing at the sink. Seriously. Do you ever get used to that? Yeah, I don't really think so. Besides closing the window and pulling down the shade, whatcha gon do? It is what it is!  :)

After three days of being disconnected to the outside world via internet (we don't watch TV), about five of you asked for it, and here it is. Ok, so this is why I like the idea of scrapbooking but don't do it. It takes me FOR.EV.ER. to lay it all out just the way I want it. Even then, I'm not 100%. On top of that, our Internet Service Provider went kaput. The automatic recording claimed a line had been accidentally cut (likely story), but it's also equally possible the waves were good. I mean, THREE DAYS to fix the problem? But after a year and a couple of months, we've learned not to go all 'Mainland' on people, companies and things like that where 'fast & efficient service' is expected (the kind that causes heart-attacks and road-rage, I guess). It's not everyone or everything. Just the way it can be around here. Kinda like the Bumper Sticker I see alot on cars: "Slow Down! Dis aint da Mainland!"

BTW/FYI: this was originally going to be my personal blog. However, David saw me setting it up and has decided to "make it his own" (Paula Abdul) as well. So he'll occasionally pen a Post for your reading pleasure. :) I'm happy about that. I mean, he reads over my shoulder when I'm on Facebook, tells me what I should post, but refuses to get his own account? Anyway, we've agreed that we're sorta gonna have to write retroactively here at first about our general experiences over the last year, and I've asked David to author that one. Also BTW: since we're newbies, please feel free to give us tips/advice/shortcuts on blogging in general. Thanks for the help you've given so far! ~Amy
